Salvation

SalvationThe definition of salvation
Salvation means to be delivered from an impending danger.

Why the need for salvation?
God made man (Adam) in His own image, after His likeness (Genesis 1:27). He planted the beautiful Garden of Eden, told him to keep it and also instructed him not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God actually told him that the penalty for eating of the tree is death (Genesis 2:16–17).

Once Adam and Eve (whom God later created when He saw that Adam was lonely) went against the instruction God gave them, man was separated from God. Separation from God makes life very difficult and full of woes. God has no choice but to be separated from man because He cannot look upon sin (Habakkuk 1:13).

God being a very loving God, in His infinite mercies, went back to the drawing board to bridge the gap between us and Him so we can enjoy fellowship with Him again (2 Corinthians 5:19). If not for this plan and its successful execution we would be doomed for eternity. Eternity means time without end. The impending doom that Jesus came to save us from is eternity in hell.  (More details on hell to follow shortly)

In order for you to escape hell, God has made a way out for you.

God’s plan of salvation for man
If there is no shedding of blood there is no remission of sin (Hebrews 9:22). In the Old Testament people had to use the blood of a lamb but in the New Testament, Jesus, The Lamb of God (John 1:29), was sacrificed on the cross for our sins. He knew no sin, but was crucified for your sins and mine (2 Corinthians 5:21).

That was a divine exchange – the sinless was crucified for the sinful. When someone is in bondage, or behind bars, it takes someone free to pay the bail. Once the price is paid you don’t have to pay again. Since Jesus paid for our offences, you know the consequences are also off the table – now that is Good News!!!

Jesus came in the form of man (Hebrews 2:16). He was born of a woman and lived among us. He was tempted at all points and yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15). If the devil had known, He would not have crucified Him (1 Corinthians 2:8). If the devil had known that was God’s plan for our escape from his grip, he would have stayed away from Jesus.

We were under the devil’s ‘rulership’ until Jesus showed up and paid the price for us to be free with His own blood. Remember the bible says whomsoever you obey is your master (Romans 6:16). God gave Adam a very simple instruction; the devil came with another analogy. What Adam and Eve didn’t realize was that by taking the devil’s proposition they submitted the ‘rulership’ of the earth to him.

Now What?
God who is Love (1 John 4:8) has given every man freedom of choice (Deuteronomy 30:19). You have a choice to make right now. This decision is the most important one you will ever make.

  • In order to be saved, i.e. to enjoy the salvation that costs God the life of His only son you have to acknowledge that
you are a sinner in need of God’s forgiveness so you can be reconciled to Him
  • Jesus died to pay the penalty for your sins

Very simple, isn’t it?

It is a very simple prayer.  If you have never given your life to Jesus, you need to do so right now. Delay is dangerous. This has to do with your very life in the now and eternity. This decision determines if you will spend eternity with God or in hell. Believe me you don’t want to miss it, because the horror of hell is real.

John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10: 9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

The first Scripture above tells us how love moved God to have His Son crucified for our sins so we can have eternal life. The second Scripture tells us the two simple steps to take to be saved – believe in your heart and confess with your mouth.
